FIDES celebrates its 100th anniversary

FIDES, the third oldest certified public accounting and consulting firm in Germany, celebrated its 100th anniversary earlier this year.

FIDES was founded in 1919 by the bank Deutsche Nationalbank as FIDES Treuhand-Aktiengesellschaft to provide credit verification and tax consulting for bank customers. It defied inflation and post-war depression to become the first approved German Public Auditing Company with officially appointed public auditors at its headquarters in Bremen in 1932.

In the 1950s and ‘60s, FIDES gained clients from all sectors and industries in the economic boom in Germany, and grew to be one of the Top 25 certified public accounting and consulting firms in the country, with over 300 employees and 36 partners in eight locations.

FIDES partner Dr Christoph Löffler says: “We are proud that FIDES always was, and still is, the market leader in our region in north-western Germany. Our clients put trust in us as their auditors and advisors, because trust is something FIDES stands for, as reflected in its very name (FIDES is Latin for 'trust').”

In 2007, FIDES became a member of Praxity Global Alliance – the world’s largest alliance of independent accounting and consulting firms – when the Alliance was first established.

FIDES partner Andreas Noodt comments: “Over the past 100 years, one thing has not changed: the strong values to which we aspire - closeness, clarity and consistency. These shape our work and our interdisciplinary work. We have close personal relationships with our clients, prize clarity in our communications, and place particular importance on consistency in our collaborations.”
