Garry Bowman, Dixon Hughes Healthcare Consultant, Awarded
the Virginia Healthcare Financial Management Association’s Medal of Honor

Durham, NC, September 3, 2009 - The Virginia Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) has awarded the Founders Medal of Honor to Garry Bowman of Dixon Hughes PLLC. The Founders Award program is a personal incentive program designed to encourage, monitor and recognize individual involvement in HFMA.

Garry Bowman first received the Bronze, Silver and Gold Merit awards before receiving the Medal of Honor. It can take a career of volunteerism to achieve, but he also stayed involved for two of the three years following receipt of the Gold Merit award and was approved for the Medal of Honor by the Board of Directors.

Elizabeth Gerding, President of the VA-DC Chapter of HFMA, says “Garry has been a key contributor to the success of our VA-DC HFMA Chapter for many, many years. His leadership, enthusiasm, and caring support of the fellow board and committee members are very admirable, and I am very pleased to consider him a mentor and also a friend. Throughout our years of working together on HFMA projects, Garry has always had a positive attitude which is contagious and does a great job of letting other volunteers know they are appreciated for their hard work and contributions.”

Ed Cody, Dixon Hughes’ Member-In-Charge of the Healthcare Consulting Group says “Garry has been an integral part of the success of Dixon Hughes PLLC. This is a great honor for Garry and we are proud that he is with Dixon Hughes.”

Some activities on which the Founders Award program measured Bowman, included committee involvement, serving as an officer, presenting a program to the chapter, participating in a panel presentation, writing newsletter articles and mentoring new members.

Bowman is a 1971 graduate of George Washington High School. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1975 and is a CPA.

About the Founders Medal of Honor Award: The Founders Medal of Honor is a special award in that it is conferred by action of the Virginia HFMA Chapter Board of Directors. The award is not based on the accumulation of points like the first three, but rather on the judgment of the Chapter Board that the individual has been active for at least two of the three years since earning the Muncie Gold Merit award.
